A Day in the Life of a Volunteer

Food Pantry

Monday morning, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

As box trucks from our large food distributors arrive at Grace Welcome Center, volunteers take delivery, create inventories, weigh, sort, stack, and package the food in boxes and grocery bags for distribution to the public. A manager creates the weekly distribution lists based on the available inventory and orders replenishments from the large distributors.

Tuesday Morning, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Volunteers still receive food deliveries, but most are perishable foods to be handed out that Tuesday evening. The bags and boxes are filled and staged for the evening.

Tuesday evening, 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - Food Pantry distribution.

A dairy and meat bag is made at this time and will be handed out with the previously filled boxes or bags. Volunteers distribute the boxes and bags to the public between 4:00 and 5:30 pm.

Breakfast and Shower Program

Thursday and Friday 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Tables are set up and coffee is made first thing in the morning. While some of our guests enjoy a hot shower, volunteers start cooking a homemade breakfast. We serve our guests through a line style. We clean up the dishes, tables, and floors shortly after serving.
